Netizens are discussing the recent information shared by the gas company responsible for investigating gas leaks and carbon monoxide at Gene Hackman’s home.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Santa Fe Fire Department have shared updated information regarding their ongoing investigation into the deaths of actor Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa, and their family dog.
According to officials, the New Mexico Gas Company conducted a thorough inspection of the couple’s residence at 1425 Old Sunset Trail on the evening of February 26, 2025, to investigate possible gas leaks or carbon monoxide presence. The inspection, which was finalized just days later, did not reveal any dangerous levels of gas or carbon monoxide inside the home.
While the company issued five red tags during their inspection, only one was related to a minor gas leak at a stove burner—measuring 0.33 percent gas in the air, an amount considered non-lethal.
The other red tags were issued for code violations unrelated to gas leaks, such as issues with the home’s water heater and gas log lighters in the fireplaces.
The findings were formally shared with law enforcement and fire officials on March 3 and subsequently forwarded to the Office of the Medical Investigator for review. However, investigators do not currently believe these findings played a role in the tragic deaths of Gene Hackman, Arakawa, or their pet.
