Authorities documented signs of disorder in the home of the deceased couple — aligning with the actor’s daughter’s account of their private lifestyle.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office released photos and videos from Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa’s home after discovering their bodies in February 2025.
According to Page Six, body-cam footage shows officers walking through spaces filled with clothes, dog crates, books, toiletries, and prescription bottles. In one clip, an officer notes a smell upon entry. One bathroom contained feces and urine in the toilet, and a blood-stained pillow was visible in the bedroom.
