Stella Luna, 15
Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery welcomed their first child, Stella Luna, in 2009. By the time she turned five, she was promoted to big sister — a transition that came with a few laughs. During a 2015 visit to “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” the actress shared a moment about Stella adjusting to the family’s newest member.
When asked how her eldest daughter responded to having a sibling, Pompeo recalled, “Well, she liked her at first, and then she said, ‘Is she leaving?’ after three months.” The star then explained how she reassured her daughter, saying her sister was staying for good. Stella’s reply was, “Oh, okay.”
That adjustment period wasn’t without a few bumps. Pompeo revealed that for nearly a month after the baby arrived, Stella seemed upset every day. But over time, her mood lifted, and she started showing affection toward her sister.
Pompeo shared that Stella didn’t hold the baby much in the beginning because the infant was heavy for her small frame. However, she and Ivery encouraged her to do so under supervision.
Beyond her role at home, Stella spent time on the set of “Grey’s Anatomy” during her early years. Pompeo recalled that her daughter once expressed an interest in becoming an emergency doctor.
She would often visit the office of Linda Klein, the show’s medical producer, and explore the equipment. On one occasion, Pompeo found Stella using a bone drill on a model femur. “They have her doing advanced procedures,” she said.
Years later, Stella would once again be seen alongside her mother — this time dressed for a special evening. In January 2024, she accompanied Pompeo to the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.
Ahead of the ceremony, Pompeo posted a video showing both of them before and after getting ready. “Thank you again, to everyone that made this happen yesterday! We had the best night,” she captioned the post on Instagram.
Stella’s presence was also noted at another meaningful event in her mother’s career. On April 29, 2025, the teenager stood proudly beside Pompeo during the unveiling of her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
