A local has shared her thoughts after human remains were found in the area where the global star lives. At the same time, several people across New England believe the string of deaths in three states could be tied to a serial killer.
Since the start of the year, multiple bodies have been found across the northeastern United States. The most recent case was uncovered near Taylor Swift’s residence in Rhode Island, located in the New England area.
A disturbing discovery was made on the morning of May 14, 2025, just a short distance from Swift’s seaside mansion known as the Holiday House.
Police in Westerly, Rhode Island, revealed in an interview that suspected human remains were found in Watch Hill, the upscale neighborhood where the singer’s home stands.
Officers responded to a call on Everett Avenue and located what they believed to be a human leg bone. The remains were then taken to the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office for further analysis.
According to authorities, they are still waiting for confirmation on the identity of the remains. So far, investigators do not suspect foul play.
This unsettling find, so close to a celebrity’s home, quickly drew attention from nearby residents — one of whom happened to witness the scene unfold. Taylor Day, who lives in Westerly, was driving by when she noticed several officers at the site. She explained in an interview:
“I saw three police cars — one undercover — two looked like Westerly town police officers, and there was a medical examiner pulling in behind me. It kind of alarmed me, and it was just something very out of the ordinary for Westerly.”
Even though local authorities said they do not suspect foul play, Day questioned that conclusion. “I would definitely disagree with that,” she remarked. “I think finding a leg is very suspicious.”
She also pointed out how unexpected the location was. “It was probably a couple football fields away from Taylor Swift’s house and the Ocean House,” Day added. “I would never expect anything like that — especially not in Watch Hill.”
Her concern stood out, especially given how close the scene was to such a well-known home. Swift bought the Watch Hill estate in 2013 for a reported $17.75 million. It has long served as a peaceful retreat for the star, who would hold her well-known Fourth of July gatherings there.
The property, which was previously owned by Standard Oil heiress Rebekah West Harkness and the subject of Swift’s song, “The Last Great American Dynasty,” sits on five acres and offers over 700 feet of beachfront.
It rests on the highest spot in the area, giving a clear view of the water all the way to Montauk Point. Though Watch Hill is a wealthy town by the coast, it is not usually where most celebrities stay, which reportedly may be why Swift picked it. The quiet setting likely gives her the privacy she needs.
The home itself was built in 1930 and covers 11,000 square feet. It has seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and a circular driveway that leads to a front door with large pillars. Inside, the rooms are open and bright, with big windows that face the ocean and are styled in classic New England fashion.
That stretch of land, with its deep history and sweeping views, now finds itself near the center of a mystery that has stirred concern among locals. Day mentioned that ongoing rumors and related cases in the area have made people more alert, “My mind immediately went to all the theories that are being thrown around.”
She further shared that she had become more aware of her surroundings, avoiding dimly lit or isolated areas and making an effort to stay in public spaces while staying alert.
Her caution mirrors a broader sense of worry, yet authorities have been quick to address the growing buzz. Westerly Police Chief Paul Gingerella stated in an interview that there is no evidence linking the human remains found near Swift’s home to any serial killer rumors spreading online:
Gingerella identified social media as the main source of the public’s fears, describing it as “the power of social media.” He also believed that, despite the rumors, such platforms provide “more benefits than negatives.”
While authorities work to calm fears, the steady stream of discoveries has only added to public concern. Since March 2025, 13 bodies have been found across three states — five in Massachusetts, five in Connecticut, and three in Rhode Island.
