The 24-year-old actress dazzled at the premiere of the new Wes Anderson film, “The Phoenician Scheme,” in New York City, where she posed alongside her A-list cast members.
Kate Winslet’s daughter, Mia Threapleton, was one of the expected attendees at Focus Features’ screening of the highly anticipated action-comedy film, which was released on Thursday, May 29.
The young star graced the red carpet alongside her co-stars, including Scarlet Johanssen, Tom Hanks, Benicio Del Toro, Michael Cera, Bryan Cryanston, F. Murray Abraham, and more.
Threapleton dazzled in a strapless, floor-length ELIE SAAB gown with a softly ruched bodice and flowing train. Her hair was slicked back in a neat bun, and she accessorized with a diamond necklace and matching earrings.
While she undeniably looked stunning, however, many couldn’t help but notice her striking resemblance to her mother. “Mia looks so much like a young Kate Winslet wow super beautiful!” one viewer gushed.
“Mía looks just like her mom!” another observed. Others were simply taken by her beauty, as one Facebook commenter simply wrote, “Gorgeous.”
The compliments trickled over to X, as one person said, “That’s an elegant dress. She wears it well.” “Looked lovely enough to me. very classy [sic],” another added.
Threapleton is one of the leading stars in “The Phoenician Scheme,” playing a young nun named Leisl. The story follows a wealthy man named Zsa-zsa Korda (Del Toro) who appoints his only daughter (Leisl) as his sole heir.

As Zsa-zsa launches a new enterprise, he and Leisl become the targets of tycoons, foreign terrorists, and unrelenting assassins.
Threapleton has had somewhat steady work in the past few years. Her role in the “The Phoenician Scheme” comes just over two years after she starred alongside her mother in a season three episode of an anthropological drama series titled, “I Am.”
Threapleton played a teenager named Freya. The story follows Freya’s mother, Ruth (Winslet), as she struggles to help her daughter who increasingly becomes consumed with social media.
The episode, titled “I Am Ruth” and first aired in December 2022, is one hour and 32 minutes long. It earned Winslet the 2023 BAFTA award for Leading Actress. The episode also won the Single Drama BAFTA.
In her acceptance speech, Winslet paid heartfelt tribute to Threapleton. “If I could cut this in half, I would give the other half to my daughter, Mia Threapleton,” she said, becoming visibly emotional.
The camera cut to Threapleton in the audience, who was also overwhelmed. “We did this together, kiddo,” Winslet continued. “There were days when it was agony for her to dig as deeply as she did into very frightening emotional territory sometimes and it took my breath away.”
“‘I Am Ruth’ was made for parents and their children, for families who feel that they are held hostage by the perils of the online world, for parents who wish they could still communicate with their teenagers but who no longer can,” she continued.
Winslet added that “I Am Ruth” was also for young people who had become addicted to social media and its darker sides. “This does not need to be your life,” she said.
Threapleton has also touched on the role of social media, or lack thereof, in her life. In an ELLE interview published just a week ago, on May 22, she revealed she had never had social media, and does not intend to be a part of it ever.
“People say, ‘Oh, well done,’ to not having it, but I’ve never had it, so I don’t really know what the ‘Well done’ is for. I don’t want it. I don’t want to worry about dropping my phone out of a tree if I’m climbing one because I’m trying to take a photo of something,” she told the publication.
Threapleton also recalled how her mother intentionally raised her to be less body-conscious, something the “Revolutionary Road” actress has previously spoken about.
Winslet’s decision was rooted in the body-shaming and harassment she was subjected to at the height of her “Titanic” fame. Threapleton said she recognized this in her upbringing and recalled a time when she felt insecure about her shoulders while swimming.
Additionally, Winslet made sure to keep her work life separate from her home life. “I really could count on one hand—both hands possibly—the amount of times that I went to set as a kid. My mother really strived to keep that world separate from our home life,” Threapleton said.
“My mom said, ‘No, this is strong. So many people would love to be able to swim the length of the pool the way you do—think of it as a positive thing,'” she recounted.
“That’s something that she really wanted. She would say, ‘All of their experiences will be theirs and theirs alone’—which is exactly what has happened,” she concluded.
