‘She’s Incapable of Guilt’: Meghan Markle Slammed After Talking About Money

The Duchess of Sussex faced significant backlash for remarks she made about money during her Lemonada podcast, where she appeared alongside a guest. Many critics found her comments insensitive, especially given her royal status and financial standing.

In a recent episode of Confessions of a Female Founder with Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex interviewed Spanx founder Sara Blakely to discuss business matters. The conversation turned to finances, with Meghan Markle shedding light on the challenges women encounter.

When Sara shared that she had spent her twenties investing in herself, Meghan responded, “But that is so hard to understand, because I genuinely believe I would love to be able to adopt that level of mindset.”

She emphasized how difficult it can be for many people to envision achieving financial freedom, stating, “I think, so many women, especially, we are taught to not even talk about money, and there’s lots of guilt mentality surrounding having a lot, and then at the same time there’s a scarcity mindset that it’s easy to attach to, like, ‘I’ll never get enough.'”

Meghan praised Sara and described it as “profound” that she managed to “get so quiet and clear” amid the noise in her twenties. The businesswoman then explained her belief, one she shares with woman particularly, that money is something enjoyable to earn, use, and donate.

According to Sara, “money just makes you more of who you already were. Like if you’re a jerk and you get a bunch of money, you become a bigger jerk. If you were insecure and you get a bunch of money, you become more insecure,” adding that the same applies to those who are naturally generous.

The Spanx founder elaborated that money merely magnifies one’s character and doesn’t create “something terrible.” Meghan agreed, saying people need to gain clarity on that point and added, “Cause I do think that’s a big reason also why I was able to do what I did.”

However, her comments drew sharp criticism from social media users. One person posted, “Giving it away should alleviate the guilt,” while another sarcastically wrote, “She’s fantastic, isn’t she?”

On X, a critic said, “Imagine whining about going broke when your husband gets an inheritance.” Another person commented, “so [sic] desperate for the sympathy,” while someone else remarked, “She talks as if she we are back in the 1920s when times were diffeeenr [sic] for women. Times are different and she needs to keep up with the times.”

Another critic claimed, “She doesn’t feel guilt. She’s incapable of guilt, embarrassment shame etc. This is either her wanting everyone to know she’s rich or (which I believe more likely) she is masking that the money is beginning to run out.”

One individual declared, “The most classless comment I have ever heard,” while another wrote, “Feels guilty? She spends like there is no tomorrow. I think the sentence is half true- the part about never having enough.”

Nevertheless, not all feedback was negative. A supporter wrote, “Breaking the taboo on money talk, Meghan’s honesty about wealth guilt is refreshing!” Another fan appreciated the royal’s “Good insight.”

Using laughing and teary-eyed emojis, one person joked, “Gurrrrrrrl let me get all that money right up off you… I don’t want you feeling that guilt and you will cause soooo much HAPPINESS over here. [sic]”

Meghan Markle’s reflections opened a broader conversation about how society views women and wealth. Whether seen as out of touch or refreshingly honest, her comments have reignited debate on financial transparency and privilege.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Meghan has faced criticism in recent days. As previously reported, a sweet concert snapshot of the Duchess and her husband was meant to capture joy, but one lean, one pose, and the internet saw far more than just a night out.

Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, attended a James Taylor concert during a recent night out. After the event, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared a backstage photo that drew attention on social media.

Social media users quickly weighed in on the photo. One commenter observed that Meghan appeared physically closer to James than to Harry in the photo. “Why is she leaning towards James 😢,” a second asked. Another speculated, “So she’s next to him so she can cut harry [sic] off that pic lol.”

Others reacted more dramatically, “OMG ! Unbelievable!!! Meghan markles [sic] body language with James Taylor while Harry is standing right there !!!😳”

Some netizens took issue with Meghan Markle’s overall styling, describing her outfit as overly formal for a concert and pointing out visible wear on one of her garments. Others criticized her hair for looking “greasy and flat,” suggesting her appearance didn’t match the polished image often associated with her public brand.

In contrast, several responses were supportive. “Love this…..Meghan really in her era of joy [sic]!” one fan wrote, praising the post as a light, joyful moment.

One person supported the couple’s decision to enjoy their time together, emphasizing the importance of living in the moment. Another highlighted their relaxed and genuine demeanor, noting how at ease they seemed outside the bounds of royal protocol, and offered a favorable comparison to other senior royals.
