Al Pacino Meets Pope Leo XIV in Historic Moment, but Fans Focus on His Appearance

Hollywood legend Al Pacino made headlines this week, not only for his rare private meeting with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican but also for sparking discussion about his appearance.

Al Pacino met with Pope Leo XIV on Monday in a private audience at the Vatican, marking the first official encounter between the first American pope and a Hollywood icon.

Andrea Iervolino, producer of Pacino’s upcoming film, “Maserati: The Brothers,” joined the papal visit and posted about it on his Instagram Stories. He also wrote a statement about the special occasion.

“We are honored to announce that this morning His Holiness Pope Leo XIV received in a private audience at the Holy See a delegation from the film ‘Maserati: The Brothers,’ including Oscar winner actor Al Pacino and the film’s producer Andrea Iervolino,” he said.

“The meeting was a moment of profound spiritual and cultural inspiration, centered around shared values that lie at the heart of both the Catholic Church and the film: family unity, love, compassion and the importance of contributing to the common good,” the producer added.

“These values, which Pope Leo XIV has consistently emphasized in his recent messages to the world, resonate deeply with the story of the Maserati brothers: a family whose legacy was built not only on innovation and excellence but on profound mutual respect, solidarity and a shared vision,” he concluded the statement.

Pacino arrived in Rome by private jet from New York on Sunday, June 15, 2025, to film his role as businessman Vincenzo Vaccaro in “Maserati: The Brothers,” directed by Bobby Moresco. The film centers on the story of the Maserati family, pioneers in the automotive industry.

While the larger cast, including Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia, Jessica Alba, Michele Morrone, and Salvatore Esposito, were not present at the papal meeting, Pacino’s visit captured public attention.

Fans, however, focused less on the historic encounter and more on Pacino’s appearance. “Wow 😮. He has gotten so old. A legend,” one fan wrote. “It sad to see him gotten so old. Cant picture him in that look😮 [sic]” another echoed. “It feels so sad to see my childhood hero get so old,” said another. “That’s Al Pacino????? [sic]” one more added.

The star-studded film is currently shooting in Italy, with a planned release date yet to be announced.
