Once a supermodel at the height of the ’80s fashion boom, Kim Alexis is now navigating a very different kind of spotlight — one shaped by age, experience, and resilience.
In the 1980s, Kim Alexis was a fixture on magazine covers and catwalks. The New York-born model graced the pages of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Vogue, and Cosmopolitan, while commanding runways for high-fashion giants like Gucci and Ralph Lauren.
Standing alongside icons such as Christie Brinkley, Janice Dickinson, and Paulina Porizkova, Alexis embodied the glamour and allure of an era that celebrated youthful beauty.
At 64, Kim Alexis is taking time to reflect on how society’s view of beauty changes with age.
In a recent Instagram post, she noted that she is often asked how to cope with the pressure to remain youthful and attractive — a question she described as genuine and significant.
In a video posted to her profile, Alexis addressed a question many women face as they age: how to cope with societal expectations around appearance.
“Age is inevitable,” she wrote alongside the video. She expressed the belief that people should release the need to control what they cannot and instead find peace in acceptance.
She added that, in her view, true beauty originates from within, rooted in inner peace, self-acceptance, and a strong sense of self-worth.
Dressed in a white-and-pink blouse, Alexis addressed the pressures women face to maintain a youthful appearance.
She emphasized that while aging cannot be stopped, individuals do have control over how they care for themselves internally.
Alexis highlighted that true beauty extends beyond skin and makeup, pointing instead to qualities like peace, purpose, and joy. What truly makes someone glow, she said, is “how we choose to show up in the world.”
Her message resonated with fans, who flooded the comments with praise and support. “Still gorgeous and turning heads. Age is just a number!!” one follower wrote. Another added, “Stunner… then and now!”
Others admired not only her looks but also her mindset, “Oh love that Kim. And that turquoise ocean blue on you. Perfect.”
In revisiting her past and embracing her present, Alexis continues to model a kind of beauty that transcends time.
Today, she lives a quieter life far from the high-fashion runways of her youth. Residing in Arizona, she focuses on her role as a mother of three while maintaining an active presence online.Though no longer in the spotlight, she continues to engage with fans by sharing her thoughts on aging, health, and self-acceptance.
In an interview with People Health last year, Alexis opened up about finding a sense of comfort with herself after facing health challenges, including hypothyroidism, menopause, and weight gain.
These struggles led her to step away from the public eye for a time. Alexis explained that societal expectations often demand women to maintain their youthful appearance, expressing that people want them to look the same as they did when they were younger.
Despite the pressures, Alexis has embraced aging on her own terms. She revealed that she has never undergone cosmetic procedures like Botox — and has no plans to do so.
As she grows older, Alexis said she’s gained “confidence and wisdom.” She recounted her experience with hormonal imbalances in her 50s, which followed a diagnosis of hypothyroidism in her 30s.
The condition caused weight gain and fatigue, forcing her to adapt. “I had to learn to be tolerant of myself and learn what I could handle,” she said. “I didn’t always like it, but I adapted.”
One of her most difficult periods came at age 54 when a crisis involving one of her sons left her bedridden. It was then she discovered she was in perimenopause. Still, Alexis described herself as an optimist.
With proper treatment, she said she was able to regain her footing and move forward. “I’m figuring things out along with every other woman,” she said. “About how to age gracefully, naturally, and beautifully.”
