The family of the healthcare leader is currently in conflict with law enforcement, stating they possess “credible evidence” tied to the events surrounding his passing.
On June 6, 2025, police responded to a possible overdose at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront. There, authorities found 46-year-old Nicholas Manning deceased.
Baltimore Police stated that no visible injuries were found on the victim, and his body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy to identify the cause of death.
However, the investigation remains open. According to a spokesperson from the Maryland Medical Examiner’s Office, it may take 60 to 90 days to determine both the cause and manner of death.
Beyond the ongoing investigation, Manning’s career is being remembered by colleagues and peers. He served as the head of HCA Healthcare’s West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell, Idaho, and was known as a “dedicated and mission-driven leader who loved connecting people to our shared purpose,” with 17 years of experience in healthcare leadership.
Colleagues at West Valley Medical Center expressed heartfelt sorrow over Manning’s passing. The organization remembered him as a thoughtful and inspiring leader, adding, “he will be deeply missed by all whose lives and careers he touched.”
The organization stated that, during this time of great loss, it remains committed to honoring Nick’s legacy by continuing the work he cared deeply about at the hospital and within the community.
The center extended its condolences to Manning’s family and coworkers, offering its deepest sympathies. It also stated that they would carry forward his legacy with purpose and care.
Following the hospital’s tribute, Manning’s family issued a public message of their own. A little over a week after news of his death began to circulate, they posted a statement on Facebook. The statement read:
“We possess direct and credible evidence that confirms Nicholas N. Manning was the victim of fraud and homicide.”
They disagreed with the Baltimore Police Department’s remarks, noting that no public reports had been released. The statement also revealed that the family planned to use all legal and investigative options to uncover the truth and seek justice.
The family wrote, “Nicholas was a respected healthcare executive, a brilliant mind, and a cherished member of our family. He deserves dignity, transparency, and above all — justice.”
After the family’s statement, one expert also weighed in on the case. Security consultant Evan Avnet called the situation “odd” after hearing their claim of having evidence.
Avnet acknowledged that the family was clearly upset because of the death. He also noted that if they truly believe a crime was involved, they should provide their information to the police so it can be properly investigated.
