The community of Gunter, Texas, is mourning the sudden and tragic loss of 41-year-old Spencer Loalbo, a devoted father of three and cherished husband. On June 8, 2025, Spencer tragically lost his life after being struck by lightning while playing golf with his father. The unexpected storm cloud, which passed over the golf course, sent a deadly bolt of lightning just before 5:15 p.m., long before severe weather had been forecast.

Spencer’s death has left his wife, Kaylee Loalbo, and their three young daughters heartbroken. Kaylee, visibly shaken, shared her disbelief in an emotional interview: “I just feel like this is a nightmare that I’m going to wake up from… Or that he’s just going to walk through the gate.” Spencer’s father, who was also struck, is currently recovering in a medical center in McKinney, but it remains unclear if he was hit by the same bolt.

In the wake of Spencer’s untimely passing, friends and community members gathered to finish a hen house project Spencer had started in the backyard of a family home in Double Oak. This is just one example of the many ways Spencer was involved in his children’s lives and in the local community.

Spencer and Kaylee had been married since 2014 and were raising three daughters: 8-year-old Evelynn, 6-year-old Charlotte, and 3-year-old Norah. Kaylee described her husband as a devoted family man who always made time for his daughters, even participating in their imaginative play, letting them paint his nails and apply makeup. “He was just so good. So good,” she said, remembering his constant kindness and love.

Evelynn, their eldest daughter, shared a touching memory of her father, saying, “I know that he’s with God and all of his problems have gone away… he’s still in my heart.” Spencer’s faith was an integral part of his life, guiding his actions in his community. Spencer was known for his generosity, often feeding the homeless, giving rides to strangers, and helping those in need without seeking recognition.

One particular story that exemplifies Spencer’s compassion occurred during an outreach event, where he gave away his own shoes and socks to warm a homeless woman’s cold feet. Spencer walked barefoot back to his car, visibly moved by the experience. His obituary recounts many such moments, highlighting his selflessness and love for others.

Spencer was also passionate about the outdoors, including saltwater fishing, hunting, and snowboarding in the winter. Friends fondly remembered his joyful spirit and his love for cheering on the Red Sox over chips and guacamole, always with a smile and a willingness to help.

In honor of Spencer’s legacy, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to support his family with funeral expenses, medical bills, and daily living costs. Over $126,000 has been raised so far from more than 800 generous donors. The campaign’s message reads, “Whether you knew Spencer personally or are simply moved by his story, any contribution — big or small — will make a difference.”

Kaylee expressed her hopes that her husband’s life and passing would inspire others to embrace the selflessness and kindness Spencer exhibited daily. She remarked, “I hope that they’re encouraged to be more like my husband.”

A funeral service for Spencer was held through Slay Memorial Funeral Center, and he is survived by his wife, three daughters, parents, a brother, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
