Reports from India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, shared by CNN, reveal that the Boeing 787 Dreamliner’s fuel control switches were flipped, which cut off power to the engines. This technical malfunction led to the crash, and investigators are working to uncover further details.

Key information was gathered from the aircraft’s black boxes, which contained 49 hours of flight records and two hours of cockpit audio. The cockpit voice recording captured the final moments before the crash, revealing a tense exchange between the pilots.

The report states that the plane had reached 180 knots when both engines lost power. Shockingly, each fuel cutoff switch was flipped just one second apart. In the cockpit, one pilot can be heard asking the other why the switches were flipped, with the other pilot responding that he did not do so.

Soon after, the switches were corrected, and the engines began to recover. Unfortunately, the aircraft went down before full power could be restored. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to understand exactly what went wrong in this tragic incident.
