The professional dancer’s performance on “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2019 left a lasting impression on both the audience and the judges.

Chantel Bellew, a former “Britain’s Got Talent” contestant and accomplished dancer, has died at the age of 34. Friends and family have paid tribute to her warm personality and undeniable talent.

Bellew passed away in hospital on March 22 following a suspected overdose, after a prolonged battle with depression. Her friend Daniel McErlean announced her demise on Facebook, “It comes with deep sadness and a very heavy heart to let you all know that Chantel Bellew has sadly passed away on the 22nd March surrounded by her family and close friends.”

McErlean paid tribute to his friend alongside a photo of Chantel kissing his cheek. He wrote, “For those that knew her please remember the laughs and keep those happy memories alive as we all try to process what has happened. Details of the funeral will be announced at a later time. Sending love to you all.”

Bellew, who lived in Manchester, UK, gained recognition in 2019 when she reached the quarter-finals of “Britain’s Got Talent” with a military-themed dance routine. While she didn’t advance to the semi-finals, her performance left a lasting impression on both the audience and the judges.

The energetic routine, featuring a dramatic costume reveal that had hosts Ant and Dec laughing, became one of the memorable moments of the show. Bellew even had the distinction of teaching “Strictly Come Dancing” judge Anton Du Beke how to tap dance, further solidifying her reputation in the dance community.

In addition to her television appearance, Bellew built a successful career in musical theatre and on cruise ships. On her website, she proudly characterized herself as an “enthusiastic, professional, and positive person” with extensive experience in dance and musical theatre.

With over 14 years of experience teaching dance to all ages, Bellew was known for her dedication to mentoring aspiring dancers. She taught classes and workshops across various dance styles, sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm.

Throughout her career, Bellew showcased her talent in several prominent productions, including “White Christmas” and “Scrooge” at Curve Theatre and “Loserville” at The Union in London. She also graced international stages, performing in the Paris run of “42nd Street” and the UK tour of “The Greatest Showman.”

Bellew was known for her vibrant personality and was described by friends as “the life and soul of the party.” Katherine Lucy Robinson, a friend of Bellew, shared a sweet tribute following the dancer’s passing.

“I am so very deeply shocked and saddened by the bewildering news of Chantel’s passing. My heart goes out to her friends and family during this difficult time as they navigate their grief and loss. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers,” Robinson expressed.

She remembered Bellew as a “unique, fearless, and multi-talented performer” whose passion, courage, and humor lit up every stage she graced. Robinson highlighted Bellew’s infectious energy, describing how she didn’t simply perform, she embodied the essence of her art.

“She was born to shine, and her brilliance was undeniable,” Robinson gushed. Bellew’s friend also reflected, “Though she has left this world, she will live on in the hearts of those who encountered her, as her spirit was so powerful that every recollection brings joy and laughter.”

Robinson recalled Bellew’s playful nature, noting how the dancer often made it clear she found her theory lessons less than appealing. “To know Chantel was to love her. Her memory will forever be etched in my heart, and I will never forget her,” she vowed.

Quoting Abraham Lincoln, Robinson concluded with a poignant reflection, “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” She affirmed that Bellew had indeed lived her life to the fullest, leaving a lasting mark on all who knew her. “She is a star! 🌟 REST IN PEACE, Chantel, and God Bless! 🤍,” penned Robinson.

Bellew’s best friend, content creator Luis Elkes, also shared a touching tribute. “Chantel Bellew I will miss you for the rest of my life. Thank you for being my best friend. Life will never be the same without you. I’ll love you forever ❤️ xxx,” Elkes wrote.

Choreographer Stephen Mear also expressed his sorrow over Bellew’s passing, recalling her vibrant personality and exceptional talent. In his tribute, Mear described her as someone who “lit up a room” and brought joy wherever she went.

“You were such a fabulous character that always brought joy to any company. You were one of the best tappers I have ever had the pleasure to work with. Thank you for being such a beautiful soul and always making me smile. RIP beautiful ❤️🙏💔,” he added.

Now, McErlean has launched a GoFundMe campaign on behalf of Bellew’s friend to help cover funeral expenses. In a brief tribute on the website, he wrote, “Chantel was more than a daughter, wife, sister, niece, cousin and friend. She was a kind, loving, and passionate spirit who brought joy and laughter to so many.”

McErlean continued, “Chantel was a talent second to none who was the life and soul of every party, I am sure you will agree she was a character that nobody will ever forget.”

The fundraiser he has organized aims to give Bellew a farewell that reflects her vibrant showbiz spirit. It acknowledges the significant costs involved and encourages the community to contribute.

Any remaining funds will be donated to Mind, a mental health charity, to support others facing similar challenges.

McErlean wrote, “Your donation will go directly towards honouring Chantel’s life in a way that reflects the love and legacy she leaves behind. Whether it’s a small contribution or a larger gift, every bit helps, and we are deeply grateful for your support.”

The fundraiser set a goal of $8,500 but has already surpassed it, raising $9,900. While expressing gratitude for the support, McErlean acknowledged that not everyone might be able to contribute financially.

He encouraged people to offer prayers, kind thoughts, and memories of Bellew, emphasizing how much the love and support mean during this difficult time. “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with us during this challenging time,” he concluded.

As the entertainment world mourns the loss of Bellew, her legacy will live on through the joy she brought to the stage and the memories shared with her friends, family, and those who knew and admired her.
