Inside Kevin Bacon & His Wife’s Farm with Alpacas, Pigs, & Goats – Two Were His Anniversary Gift to Her

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick once lost a significant portion of their wealth due to a poor investment decision. However, they have since recovered financially, and their marriage remains strong as they now choose to live on a farm.

Despite being Hollywood stars, Kevin Bacon and his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, have opted for a simpler, off-the-grid lifestyle. The couple owns a farm in Connecticut filled with various animals. Yet, raising livestock has led Kevin to give up certain foods. Here’s a closer look at their farm life and what their personal lives entail.

Having a Farm Comes with Sacrifices

In a 2023 interview, Kevin revealed that he no longer eats certain types of meat since living on the farm. The “Leave the World Behind” actor admits, “I no longer eat goat and I no longer eat pig, because I have goats and I have pigs.”

Offering more insight into his home life, he explained, “My wife is like, ‘We can’t get any more animals, because you’re going to stop eating everything.'”

In addition to their four goats and two pigs, the couple also has three alpacas and three miniature horses.

Kevin revealed the reason behind their growing collection of animals: “I love animals, they are a joy to be around, and they’re very, very calming for me. But we also really love to go into the garden and get fresh herbs or tomatoes or basil or peppers or zucchini.”

He continued, “Taking something hot off the vine that feels warm and smells like it’s been created by all these natural forces of the sun and air and water and earth and dirt, and then putting it back into your body to sustain yourself…it’s a great lesson in terms of just how important it is to do our best to try to protect this boat that we’re all riding in.”

Kevin’s love for cooking and food took root during his early years as a struggling actor in New York City.

He recalled using whatever ingredients he had—such as egg, onion, and leftover pasta—frying them in a pan and eating straight from it with a fork.

The “Toxic Avenger” star did this to avoid having too many dishes to clean. While he’s no longer that frugal, he still prefers home-cooked meals over dining at upscale restaurants.

The “Hollow Man” star explained, “I feel like if you’re always eating out or you’re always getting something to go, then you’re always giving your power over to the people that are going to prepare the food for you.”

He added, “I can’t do that my whole life. I need to have a little bit more control over what I’m putting in my body.”

Unlike in his younger days, he now prefers cleaning up while cooking, something his wife doesn’t usually do, so he takes on that task himself.

Describing his method, he said, “I want to sit down and know that the cleanup is not going to be longer than the dinner.” The couple has also formed strong bonds with some of their animals.

The Musical Bond Shared with the Animals

Kevin and Kyra, who divide their time between Connecticut, Los Angeles, and New York City, occasionally have their animals appearing in their TikTok videos. Fans spot their goats in clips where Kevin sings and plays guitar.

The actress humorously shared, “People were like, ‘We love you singing with the goats.’ Kevin and I are like, ‘Great, have you seen our movies or TV shows?'” However, she welcomed the attention, saying “it makes people happy.”

In a 2021 interview, Kevin revealed that singing with their animals began as a spontaneous activity during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Internet users joined in the fun when they started contributing pun-filled song suggestions like “New Kids on The Block” and “The Kids are Alright.”

Kevin even joked about writing a parody titled “You Can Goat Your Own Way,” a play on the Fleetwood Mac classic. While he suspects the goats enjoy the musical collaborations, he’s not entirely sure!

Kyra revealed that two of the goats were actually gifts from her husband. He once presented her with a customized Central Park bench engraved with the message: “For Kikko: Because … there’s something in the way she moves. I love you, K.”

Touched by the gesture, she said, “I was very touched. It was beautiful.” Kevin gave her the goats, Macon and Louis, as wedding anniversary presents. He noted that Kyra genuinely appreciated receiving animals for such a special occasion.

While brushing, patting, and scratching Macon, Kevin spoke about how affectionate the goat is, saying it could easily accept attention all day. When praised for his farming skills, the actor laughed while admitting that he doesn’t handle everything himself.

Although he enjoys life on the farm, the star remains passionate about acting and appreciates that he’s still able to find work. He said the pandemic made him more grateful for that opportunity.

Losing Money and Picking Themselves Up

Before the pandemic, Kevin and Kyra went through financial ups and downs. While Kevin earned through an EE promotion deal, they lost their money in Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme. He opened up about it during a 2022 appearance on the “SmartLess” podcast.

The actor revealed they were heavily impacted because they had “most of our money in Madoff.” He said one of the lessons they learned is that “if it’s too good to be true, it’s too good to be true.”

Thankfully, he didn’t face the fallout alone, Kyra stood by him, and together they faced the consequences. They resolved to “roll up our sleeves and get to work,” acknowledging how fortunate they were to still have their health and that of their children.

They also focused on the other positive aspects of their lives, like their continued ability to work. Kevin admitted they did feel anger, but he recognized that many others suffered far worse. Many older individuals and others lost their entire retirement savings.

During those tough times, the couple clung to the phrase, “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.”

Kyra also reflected on the experience that same year, stating, “It was humiliating…” Despite the challenges, the couple—who share two children, son Travis and daughter Sosie—have remained married for over 30 years.

“The Woodsman” actress shared some secrets behind their long-lasting relationship.

She said, “We’ve always been each other’s biggest support and fans.”

The “What We Got Wrong” star also emphasized the importance of humor, adding, “A sense of humor is crucial. He is very freaking funny.”

When they aren’t working, they enjoy life’s quieter moments.

The actress’s husband shared, “To me, walking down the street together just shooting the [expletive] in the middle of the night still feels like a nice place to be.”

However, he said he’s never seen Kyra happier than when she’s directing.

Kevin, born on July 8, 1958, and is now 66 years old, elaborated, “She just absolutely adores directing. You can’t be a crew or a cast member and not get swept up in that [excitement].”

Kyra hopes to direct more in the future, saying, “I love being in charge of the storytelling.”

In addition to the serenity they experience being away from the glam and glitz of Hollywood, the couple’s lives are even quieter now that they are empty nesters.

The “Loverboy” actress, who was born on August 19, 1965, and is now 59 years old, discussed the transition of becoming an empty nester.

Kyra Sedgwick relived being an empty nester on the comedy show “Call Your Mother,” where she played a mom adjusting to an empty house.

“I think it’s a real crushing blow, honestly, when they leave you,” she said, reflecting on her children moving out. Though it was difficult, she found comfort in knowing she had done her job well, helping them become independent. She remains proud of the way her children continue to learn from each other.
